How to Keep Your Child’s Teeth Healthy

Here are some ways you can help assure your child has a good smile!

Tips for your baby’s dental care:

  • Don’t put your baby down for a nap or bedtime with a bottle.
  • Encourage use of a cup by the first birthday. Discourage frequent use of a training cup.
  • Give your baby sensible, nutritious snacks. They’re better for the teeth than sweets and can form good habits for a lifetime.

Tips for a child’s dental care:

  • Limit between-meal snacks.
  • If you allow sugary foods and drinks, give them during meals. Saliva helps neutralize acid production.
  • If you allow gum, make it sugarless.
  • Water and low-fat milk are more healthful than soft drinks.
  • Set a good example and help your kids develop good brushing and flossing habits.
