Fruits and Vegetables for Anti-Aging

Anti-aging products aren’t all creams and masks. Some foods have natural anti-aging properties that will allow you to keep a healthy glow. Fruits and vegetables are among the best natural anti-aging methods out there.

Younger people boast about how they will age naturally, but often change their minds at the first sign of wrinkling. Then, worried about the demise of their smooth foreheads, some go completely overboard with expensive creams or injections. But believe it or not, there’s a middle ground.

You can take years off your skin without slathering it in artificial goop. One of the easiest ways to improve your skin’s appearance is to load up your diet with healthy fruits and vegetables. Research shows that a healthy diet can improve skin’s elasticity while minimizing fine lines and creases.1 Add these fruits and veggies to your diet to help minimize the effects of time:


Eating Right to Reduce Wrinkles

High in vitamin C, oranges are commonly used to help prevent and cure illness. Research also suggests that oranges and other fruits high in vitamin C may be a viable means of preventing and reducing wrinkles. The vitamin is a key player in the development of collagen, which is necessary for maintaining the skin’s natural elasticity. Vitamin C also serves as an antioxidant, preventing free radicals or tissue-harming molecules from causing skin damage.


Like oranges, broccoli is high in vitamin C, making it the perfect vegetable for keeping your skin looking young. Broccoli also contains coenzyme Q10, an antioxidant that fights free radicals. Many people don’t get enough Q10 in their diet. As a result, their skin cells are not equipped with the tools they need to withstand stress. A diet high in coenzyme Q10 allows your body to repair skin damage at a rapid pace, helping to slow the aging process. This antioxidant is often added into anti-wrinkle creams, but it can be consumed for a much lower cost in the form of broccoli.


Next time you make your favorite chicken salad, add a few spinach leaves for a wrinkle-reducing effect. Spinach is high in vitamin E, a vitamin that’s also often used in anti-wrinkle formulas. The efficacy of vitamin E skin creams is still uncertain, but experts agree that when included in a healthy diet, the vitamin can promote younger-looking skin.2 The powerful antioxidant is said to decrease wrinkle depth, making them less visible.

There’s no miracle cure for aging skin, but a healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables can help you look and feel younger. Add some vitamin C, vitamin E and coenzyme Q10 into your daily diet for a healthy boost to your skin.
