Access

Your ability to receive medical care which can be affected by certain factors. Factors that impact access include your location and the kind of providers/facilities in your area. The provider network the insurance company offers impacts access – a particular doctor may not be in the network (using an out-of-network provider usually comes with a penalty, i.e., reduction in what the plan will pay). Your plan may limit access by requiring you to receive a referral from a primary care physician before you can see a specialist.
