Health Care Reform and You

Answers to Your Questions about Health Care Reform

When do provisions of the new health care reform law take effect?

Implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA), the new health care reform law, will be phased in over the next decade.

While some initial reforms were implemented in 2010, many existing customers saw the first significant changes to their health plans on January 1, 2011, coinciding with the start of the annual calendar-year deductible. Additional benefits as a result of reform were included at the time of purchase for more recent customers with effective dates on or after September 23, 2010.

Major changes in the individual health insurance market are slated for 2014. We will continue to notify our customers in writing prior to any changes being made to their health plans as a result of reform.

What will happen to my coverage as a result?

Over the coming months and years, we anticipate that many pages of complex regulations will be issued to guide us in implementing the new law. There may be new requirements and mandates in individual states as well.

Although some regulations have already been issued, this will be a lengthy and ongoing process.

We want to assure you that our health plans comply with all applicable state and federal laws today and will continue to do so as changes take effect.

How will I know if and when changes are made to my health plan?

We are committed to communicating with you directly and in a timely manner when your health plan is affected by specific provisions and/or changes in the law.

At that time, you can expect to receive written communications that explain what changes or additions will be made to your health plan as required by law, and what they mean for you and your family.
